Shingles is a rash that is typically found on one side of the body. The rash will often blister, can last up to 30 days, and can and be painful. The shingles vaccine (Zostavax®) works by helping your immune system protect you from getting shingles and the associated pain, as well as other serious complications. It is recommended that patients over the age of 60 receive this vaccine to help prevent shingles. This vaccine is only given one time.

Pneumonia is an infection of the lungs that can cause mild to severe illness in people of all ages. Signs of pneumonia can include coughing, fever, fatigue, nausea, vomiting, rapid breathing or shortness of breath, chills or chest pain. You can protect yourself from this disease with the pneumococcal vaccine which can be administered at any time of the year and provides long-term protection against the disease.

Common influenza causes fever, sore throat, cough, chills, headache, and muscle aches. Each year in the U.S., more than 114,000 people are hospitalized and about 36,000 die because of influenza related illnesses. According to the CDC, the flu vaccine cuts the odds of getting the flu by 70% to 90%. A yearly flu shot is recommended for almost everyone.
